What is Psychosexual Therapy?
|
Psychosexual Therapy deals specifically with sexual
problems or relationship difficulties. It focuses
on the particular sexual or relational issue presented
by the client and it is a dynamic form of psychotherapy,
usually short term, with a good rate of success.
It may be advisable for the couple to work together
towards the resolution of their problem, but it is
also possible to work just with one individual, depending
on the presenting issue and/or personal requirements.

Problems addressed include:
In Women
Painful sex (Vaginismus), vaginal dryness, decreased libido,
sex phobia, feelings of unworthiness, mood swings, depression,
pre-menopausal and menopausal symptoms, communication difficulties
within the couple, communication problems, gender issues.
These issues can bring disruption to family and couple
life, cause a rift in a relationship, give rise to a general
sense of growing discontent, shame, guilt, frustration.
In Men
Performance anxiety, erectile dysfunction (or impotence),
premature ejaculation, retarded ejaculation, decreased libido,
inadequate sexual self-image, gender issues, communication
difficulties.
All these can lead to depression, increased levels of stress,
physical problems, feelings of unworthiness and inadequacy
and problems in relationships.
When organic causes have been excluded, it is possible
to reverse all the above symptoms without the intervention
of medications.
Psychotherapy can bring awareness to the changing needs
of clients and empower them to lead a more fulfilling life.
